BACKGROUND:
The African University of Science & Technology is a private, Pan-African, coeducational, research university located in Abuja, Nigeria. The mission of AUST is to advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology, and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the African continent in the 21st century. AUST is dedicated to providing its students with an education that combines rigorous academic study and the excitement of discovery with the support and intellectual stimulation of a diverse international and diaspora community. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) UNIT DESCRIPTION:
The IT unit supports and enables the use of ICTs as a strategic tool to improve the management and day to day running of the institution. This unit is an integral part of the University and it understands the necessary and important role technology plays in the teaching and learning experience of the students and also strives to create a technologically sound working environment for the staff members of AUST. The Unit is aimed at identifying and fulfilling the technology needs of the AUST Community, thus competing as a leading and innovative institution.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Web Developer/Designer shall be responsible for the Development, design, administration and maintenance of the university's online presence (website, social media etc).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop web interfaces for the university and ensuring strong functionality and optimization.
- Ensure cross browser compatibility, mainly IE and Firefox.
- Monitor the websites’ technical performance.
- Will further provide support services in a Linux and Free and Open Source
- Software environment. This includes support for Linux systems
- administration, print services administration, and other user-facing IT issues, as arises.
CONTROLS OVER WORK:
- Reports to the Vice President, Finance and Administrator who defines responsibilities, objectives, priorities and deadlines.
- Incumbent plans and carries out the steps necessary to achieve objectives and deadlines.
- Work is reviewed for efficiency in reaching assigned objectives.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIRED :
Candidate must have at least Bachelor degree in Computer Science, any additional certificates related the field would be an added advantage.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of technical experience in the field.
OTHER RELEVANT SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Must have a graphically strong web design skills, and a good technical understanding of web page creation.
- Must be familiar with PHP, Python, databases such as MySQL and
- Postgresql, Content Management Systems, theme design.
- Must be have web server deployment and administration skills for a Linux environment, including Apache, Nginx.
- Experience in Linux usage/administration is required.
- The ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally, and in writing.
- Great experience in Information Security .
- Strong innovation, organization potential, open-mindedness and reactivity
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural team and under pressure
- A good character with a sense of initiative and responsibility
- Rich general culture .
AGE REQUIREMENT:
Candidates must preferably be between 25 and 35 years old

English
TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:
The appointment will be made on fixed term contract for a period of three (2) years, of which the first six months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two (2) years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.
